Bob Harper / Meatless Monday

Meatless Monday and an Email from Bob Harper. What could be better?

In the spirit of Meatless Mondays, I thought I would share this email I received from Bob Harper with you.  Of course, I would like to think that I am the only one who received a personal email from Bob, my favorite Biggest Loser Trainer, but that would be a bit delusional :).  Bob is the spokesperson for this year’s Farm Sanctuary Walk, here is the email he sent to me….and a few others!

Dear Karma,

You may know me best from “The Biggest Loser,” the NBC show where I’m one of the trainers who works with people to make changes in their diets and to lose weight. If you’ve seen the show, you probably have an idea of how passionate I am about helping others make healthy choices.

But what you might not know about me is that I’m also personally committed to making compassionate choices and that I have signed on as the national spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s 2010 Walk for Farm Animals.
Take it from me: Walking is great exercise; but it’s even better when it raises awareness about an important issue and funds for a good cause — farm animal protection.

Every day, farm animals on factory farms are confined under extremely cruel conditions. Animals in confinement can’t walk. They can’t even turn around or fully stretch their limbs — ever.  Billions of suffering farm animals so desperately need our help, and that’s why I’m reaching out to ask you to participate in the Walk for Farm Animals this fall.

Please, support the Walkthis year to raise critically needed awareness and funds to stop these cruel practices. Join me in sending a message that every animal, including farm animals, deserves protection. Join the Walk and take action to end their suffering.

Here’s how you can help:
1.  Come out and walk! Find a local Walk in your area and start collecting pledges of support.
2.  Organize a Walk! If there’s no Walk in your area, and you’d like to go the extra mile by bringing one to your town, it’s not too late to sign up as a coordinator.
3.  Make a donation! Walk funds help make Farm Sanctuary’s critical work for farm animals possible, so please make a contribution today.

When we support the Walk and really get moving for a great cause this fall, all of us, including farm animals, will be the biggest winners.

Yours in health and compassion,
Bob Harper
2010 Walk for Farm Animals Spokesperson

I have also included a Farm Sanctuary video.  It showcases some of their animals and it is really peaceful.  It makes me long for a simpler life.  I hope you enjoy it.

Happy Meatless Monday!

  1. Now how cool is that! I love Bob! I am sure it was specifically to you! 😉

Had a great all weight workout this morn & some core/abs as well. Been changing up the routine even more than normal due to this age crap catching up but I am running from it & working hard to fend it off!!!!

  2. OK–So went to Dr. this morn. I do have a stress fracture. He says no walking for a month, just regular routine around the house and stuff. I do have to get better walking shoes. Guess the ones I use everyday for a year or so won’t do anymore. ha If I get some good shoes I figure maybe I could just walk a little. Poor Dano. Oh Well!!!!! M.

    • I am so glad you went to the doctor and at least now know that there really is something wrong. You are going to have to resist walking Dano and do exactly what the doctor says. A month of sacrifice now will be worth it down the road.

Be sure to get some good shoes, which is a good reminder for me that getting good shoes is a way to take care of my feet. I need some new ones.

    • I like the way you think! I got an email from Michelle Obama the other day and I told someone that Michelle had written to me and they laughed and laughed :)>

  3. The Farm Sanctuary is great, and that video just makes you feel calm.
We are running a promotion with Farm Sanctuary, when you enter the word Farmy into the coupon code box, $1.00 of every Fitness towel sold goes to Farm Santuary
We worked late yesterday and stayed up late, so we got up late, but we will exercise after work today, the plan is a run with boot camp at the end.

  4. Karma,

That is so cool that Bob emailed you!!
    He is so inspiring!

Another hour of Zumba tonight with Stacy! My sister and I had lots of fun dancing with her yesterday…and my sister loved her inperspire towel!!

    Happy Monday!
    Went meatless again today!!

  5. I think I might need to start taking Stacy’s classes on some of the other days. You are just having too much fun and I really happy your sis loves her towel.

You are a wonderful inspiration Mary! Yay for Meatless Monday :).

  6. Well…today I was supposed to exercise in the morning, but it just didn’t happen. I would normally be discouraged because it is not setting good precedent for the beginning of the semester, but instead I am just calling it one of my two days off and not worry about it.

We have to be up early to get our walk/run and some boot camp in, but we are going to do it! I need one last gold star for the month.

We made the porridge from yesterday’s post and it was great! It was easy and just tasted so healthy. We added black berries and a little more rice milk to the top. The 1 Tbsp of honey that is added to the mixture while cooking meant that I didn’t have to laden my porridge with sugar, like I usually do. I give the recipe lots of thumbs up.
