koan

As the World Turns

One day as Manjusri stood outside the gate, the Buddha called to him, “Manjusri, Manjusri, why do you not enter?”

Manjusri replied, “I do not see myself as outside. Why enter?”

One of the things I find interesting about this koan is that on some days the meaning of this koan seems crystal clear, and I find it deeply moving, yet on other days I struggle to really understand it.

I am not sure what this koan will mean to you today, but if it does not seem particularly meaningful, I urge you to read it again, maybe in a few days, to see if your interpretation changes.  I think it is quite powerful and could be a help to us all if we could only see it clearly — all the time.

It’s Friday :),

  1. Hello everyone,
I like this post it makes me think and it is calming, and I need all the calming that I can get. This is the start to a busy weekend, I have not been to TJ’s working in 9 days, so I will be spending the next 3 at TJ’s, not something that I am looking forward too.
For those of you that are looking for stars, I am in the process of updating them now, so check it out tomorrow and let us know if we missed anything.
    Have a great weekend.

    • I can vouch for the whirlwind Jimmy has been a part of…I am glad you found the koan helpful. It’s all in how we see ourselves/situation.

I have not had a chance to comment on everyone’s comments, but this weekend will be my chance to catch up.

We didn’t get to workout today, but we did yesterday, Thursday, it felt good, but at one point I told Jimmy that I was not going to push too hard because I felt that doing so would put me in a position where the whirlwind of activities of the past week would come bubbling up – and that – I did not need yesterday morning.

I look forward to getting a little time to rest and let everything seep in this evening. Saturday will be a day to reclaim myself :).

  2. ahhh….Pheobe and i just made it back from about a four mile walk…..she’s tired and my little leg muscles are burning……My friend Dani and her puppy came along as well…..I think it was the first time on a leash for him……he was funny though…..he laid down mid walk to take a break……we were also confronted by a chipmunk or something of that sort…..funny how a half pound creature can be intimidating but he had a bushy tale and was charging at us…….Have a good weekend!

  4. I like this post, too, Karma. It makes me think about perspective and keeping things in perspective.

Looking forward to great weather this weekend and being outside some more! 🙂

    Happy Friday!! 🙂
