Brass Monkey that Funky Monkey

for those who know the Beastie Boy lyrics to which the title of the post refers…

Cynthia over at Balls in the Air is hosting the Brass Monkey Virtual 5k next weekend (19th, 20th, 21st) and you’re invited!  I love it.  Check out the “whys” and the “what ups” by clicking on the image of the Brass Monkey or on the link.

Jimmy signed us up and I want to thank Cynthia for giving us a reason to like the chill in the air and a much needed challenge to perk us up this winter.

There are prizes…for running in the coldest temps, for running with the least amount of clothing on (of course, within the rules of the law), and for just running (Mama like that last one!).  It doesn’t matter how long it takes you, or if you walk, just join in the fun and celebrate being colder than…

And for those of you not familiar with one of Jimmy’s favorite Beastie Boys songs…besides being a barometer for how cold it is outside, it’s also a drink, which is what the song is about:

(chorus) Brass Monkey – that funky Monkey
Brass Monkey – junkie
That funky Monkey

Got this dance that’s more than real
Drink Brass Monkey – here’s how you feel
Put your left leg down – your right leg up
Tilt your head back – let’s finish the cup
M.C.A. with the bottle – D. rocks the can
Adrock gets nice with Charlie Chan
We’re offered Moet – we don’t mind Chivas
Wherever we go with bring the Monkey with us
Adrock drinks three – Mike D. is D.
Double R. foots the bill most definitely
I drink Brass Monkey and I rock well
I got a Castle in Brooklyn – that’s where I dwell…

Get up and Get Ready for the Brass Monkey!  Don’t be shy.  Have a “sahhhweet” Sunday.

  1. Nothing wrong with a little Brass Monkey. We are in for the 5K, and I think that we could win for the least amount of clothing, not because I like running in naked in St. Louis when it is cold, but because I think that it is going to be about 65 and sunny next weekend. Now it is time for some Brass Monkey.
